Word of Faith Christian Ministries(Dayton, Ohio) announcements for the week of October 19, 2008
1) The service at Greater Judah International Ministries on Friday, October 24, 2008 has been cancelled.
2) Word of Faith will be fellowshipping with St. Paul Global Ministries (2050 Germantown St Dayton, Ohio) during the last night of “31 days of revelation” 7p. This is also their Halloween alternative night for children. Candy donations will be taken right up until the start of the party.
3) We will be holding a Financial Freedom Seminar, Saturday November 15, 2008 for 9a-12p at the church. Vernita Kilgore (our very own Chief Financial officer) and Otis Sheppard (Career development Specialist) will be giving sound practical application solutions to problems that we are having during this very uncertain encomonic time. Learn how to make charitable contributions, budget, debt reduction and payoff, investments, and career transistions. Cost is $5/person. We are in the process of implementing small groups at our church. This is a new, yet exciting area for us. We have been in a place for the last five years where we have had pretty much two services Sunday Morning and Wednesday evening. We have seen growth in these numbers but not really the kind of growth and involvement that we have been looking for. I have been looking at some other churches and using the bible as my blueprint and here is what I got so far:
- Small Groups create community, and fellowship. They provide the opportunity for individuals who might not other know each other or speak to get to know each other on a much more intimate level.
- Small Groups change lives while promoting spiritual growth. Most of the small groups that I have been reading about are actively participating in their respective communities, showing the love and power of Jesus Christ.
- Small Groups are a biblical concept. Acts 2:46,47- And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in homes, they received their food glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 5:41,42- Then they left the presence of the council , rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
Here is what I still need to know:
How can small groups be properly managed once there a large number of groups let’s say 2,000? and can one person effectively manage that large of a group?
How do we make sure that EVERY member is involved and participating in small groups?
What things are working for other small groups in terms of particpation?

Okay, Is it me or did this week fly by?
Thursday and Friday I had the opportunity to go to the Willowcreek Summit Conference. It was awesome. Once again Bill Hybels, reminded us that Vision Leaks. So not to get frustrated when one of the people at Word of Faith can not remember where we are going. We got to hear some Axioms and while I was there and I thought of one right off the bat…There is no such thing as common sense.
Craig Grosechel talked about having IT…..I felt so (can’t even think of a word) that all I could do is just reflect on what he said. So may prayer for God right now is God show me if i have IT and if i don’t help me get IT.
Pastor Lyons, Pastor Jamila and I left feeling renewed and refilled at the many possibilities that we have in front of us and plan on showing it to the leaders when it is released 10/06/08. Such an awesome experience for Christians and business leaders alike.
So now we move on, We are preparing the hearts and minds of the people to minister to the people in our church neighborhood. We are having a block party!! It is going to be so much fun!! More info to come….
