Small Groups

We are in the process of implementing small groups at our church. This is a new, yet exciting area for us. We have been in a place for the last five years where we have had pretty much two services Sunday Morning and Wednesday evening. We have seen growth in these numbers but not really the kind of growth and involvement that we have been looking for. I have been looking at some other churches and using the bible as my blueprint and here is what I got so far:

  1. Small Groups create community, and fellowship. They provide the opportunity for individuals who might not other know each other or speak to get to know each other on a much more intimate level.
  2. Small Groups change lives while promoting spiritual growth. Most of the small groups that I have been reading about are actively participating in their respective communities, showing the love and power of Jesus Christ.
  3. Small Groups are a biblical concept. Acts 2:46,47- And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in homes, they received their food glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 5:41,42- Then they left the presence of the council , rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Here is what I still need to know:

How can small groups be properly managed once there a large number of groups let’s say 2,000? and can one person effectively manage that large of a group?

How do we make sure that EVERY member is involved and participating in small groups?

What things are working for other small groups in terms of particpation?

Do you have any answers? or Do you have more questions? I am interested in what everyone has to say.. Sound off

Things I will be doing this labor day:

1. Washing clothes & Ironing them. I have to get the kids clothes ready for the week.

2. Packing lunch. School begins again tommorrow.

3. Something outside. I don’t know what yet.

4. Watching several episodes of one of the many marathons today.

We didn’t really plan anything concrete to do today. I think my husband just wants to play GTA4 and I just wanted to get finished. So off we go….much to do….hmmm…maybe I will start my Christmas shopping today. Christmas 90 + days away.

Sunday Night Reflections

Our block party was today. It was grrreat! It was a wonderful time to spend with friends, family, and most of all strangers. Our church is located in Downtown Dayton in between the county jail and the main Bus stop. It was a prime opportunity for us to minister today and win souls for JESUS. I can say God was AWESOME, the bomb, he blew my mind and so on and so forth. Words can even describe how God moved in the hearts and minds of the people. God really moved and I look forward to working with our partner church again (November) it’s coming….. They were truly a blessing to us.

BTW, I can honestly say that since I was ordained as the A.P. (Administrative Pastor) I have learned that you really have to thank your leaders and let them know that you appreciate them. So in that regard, I want all the leaders at Word of faith to know I appreciate them.

I thought that once the consecration service was over I would have a minute to blog about all the stuff that’s been happening and what’s coming next. That has not been an absolute reality since I am still really busy. I have more birthday parties and services that I have to make sure get off the ground. Hey that’s life.

I am looking for ways to get more readership on my blog before I really start getting down to the grit.

well that’s all for now.
